What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honours and celebrates the skilful, compassionate care nurses and midwives provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalisation, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses and midwives in a very public way. To learn more, visit www.daisyfoundation.org

Congratulations to our first DAISY Award honoree for September, 2024
We are delighted to share that Dave Aragones, a nurse with Vhi Hospital@Home since 2015, has been chosen as the first recipient of the award within Vhi. Dave was nominated for his exceptional commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and compassionate support.

Who can nominate a Vhi nurse or midwife for the DAISY Award?
Anyone, including a patient, family member or colleague, who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided to a patient by a nurse or midwife who is employed by Vhi in any one of our services.
Nomination Terms and Conditions
T&Cs
- The nurse/midwife must be registered with the Nurse and Midwifery Board of Ireland
- The nurse/midwife must be an employee of Vhi
- The nurse/midwife must have worked in Vhi within 6 months of the nomination
- The decision will be made by the DAISY Award Committee
